NOTICE OF MEMBER VACANCIES - TENNESSEE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION COMMISSION

The Tennessee Soil and Water Conservation Commission is an 11-member body established to administer and approve watershed districts, support the work of local conservation districts across the state, and maintain a statewide plan for conservation of Tennessee soil. The Commission reports annually to the Commissioner of Agriculture regarding progress, implementation, and financial needs of soil and water conservation programs in the state.

Positions on the Commission are appointed by the Governor and allocated under state law across the grand divisions to local conservation district supervisors and to farmers or other people engaged in agricultural industry. Members serve a 3-year term and are not eligible for compensation but are eligible for travel reimbursement arising from their service.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is currently accepting nominations for 2 member positions on the Commission:

• One (1) farmer or agricultural representative from the Eastern Grand Division

• One (1) soil and water conservation district supervisor from the Middle Grand Division

To submit a nominee for consideration, please provide the following:

• Nominee’s full name and contact information

• The specific position for which they are being nominated

• A brief description of the nominee’s qualifications, including relevant professional and public service experience

All nominees are encouraged to have significant knowledge or experience related to agriculture and conservation principles.

Please note that an agricultural industry representative includes any person engaged in business that provides a good or service to farmers; any employee of a governmental agency whose mission includes conservation of natural resources; or any person possessing a graduate degree in agricultural science, agricultural engineering, or agricultural business.

The nomination period will remain open through January 5, 2026. All nominations will be vetted for consideration and submitted to the Governor for selection and appointment in accordance with state law.
